REGULATIONS ON ADMISSION OF STUDENTS


Mission Statement

The AUK Admission and Financial aid office aims to provide services with a personal touch for all students and their families interested in enrolling. Our Office is determined to provide friendly, effective and professional services. Our office seeks to provide students with general information on AUK and academic programs in Russian, Kyrgyz and English. Our office provides interested applicants an opportunity to tour the campus, experience the AUK environment, obtain general scholarship information and meet with faculty and department heads.


General Admission

1.1 In accordance with the Ministry of Education's Code of the Kyrgyz Republic "About Education" students with high school degrees or vocational certificates are eligible for admission exams.

1.2 Citizens of all countries are welcomed to apply and if fully accepted reach an agreement with AUK. AUK tuition fees are administered during each students tenure at AUK .

1.3 All students are required to provide proof of high school graduation or its equivalent and transcripts.

1.4 Upon acceptance the Admission Committee is required to present the applicant with an agreement regarding the terms of education, mutual responsibilities in maintaining academic standards, and all financial terms of tuition payment.

Transfer Students

2.1 It is preferred that a transfer student seeking admission enroll in the fall semester.

2.2 All transfer applicants are required to submit a regular AUK admission application. All transfer applicants must provide documents certifying their citizenship. The transcript from his previous institution, medical certificate, passport photographs and essay where he/she describes himself and explains why he /she wants to study at AUK must be attached to Application.

2.3 Transfer students are encouraged to meet with appropriate department heads and faculty to discuss the courses and transfer credits.

2.4 Faculty and Heads of programs administer all admission exams.

2.5 Head of the program determines to what year the student can be admitted after the admission exams and academic differences according to academic schedule.

2.6 Transfer might be done only after the accomplishment of 1st year in his previous institution.

2.7 It is not permitted to transfer to 4th year in AUK. At least half of degree worth must be completed at AUK.

2.8 AUK welcomes scholarship applications from transfer students. Applications must be submitted in fall semester with appropriate financial documentation. Students are required to have a TOEFL score of at least 500.

2.9 Admission of transfer students based on successful examination requested by head of the program and decision of admission committee.

2.10 Transfer Students have to provide documentation from previous undergraduate institution.

Preparatory Program

3.1 The American University in Kyrgyzstan welcomes all interested students who wish to study Intensive English, Russian, Mathematics and possibly elective courses in preparatory program for 1 academic year.

3.2 Students are admitted to preparatory program with State certificates from high school or vocational education. Exception is made for early graduate students.

3.3 All applicants are required to submit a regular AUK admission application. Transfer applicants must provide documents demonstrating their citizenship. The high school or vocational certificate (for foreign students this document must be translated into English or Russian and certified by notary), medical certificate, and passport photographs must be attached to the Application

3.4 Completion of one year Preparatory Program does not guarantee a student's admission into an undergraduate program. Admission of Preparatory Students is made on common basis of general competition. However, outstanding performance in the Preparatory Program will be considered during the admission process.

PROCEDURES OF REGISTRATION AND ENROLLMENT


Admission Procedures

Any person has the right to become a student of AUK regardless of age, sex, race, religion, physical abilities/disabilities, or country of residence.

Documents required for admission are as follows:

1. A personal declaration written both in Russian and English;

2. An Application Form;

3. A high school or secondary school diploma or similar level diploma or certificate of completion (certified copies of such documents are acceptable);

4. Passport (Copy, and the original to certify it, to be shown in the Admissions Office);

5. Medical forms No 286 (086y);

6. 6 passport sized photographs (3cm x 4 cm);

Other documents that give more detailed information on the applicant (Diplomas given at competitions - "Olympiads", Certificate of a Gold Medal, Awards, other certificates);
