Ethnology is a science that studies general patterns of culture development. Kyrgyz Ethnology is a Department that studies the historical development of the Kyrgyz culture, and specific issues in Kyrgyz psychology, ways of thinking, and worldviews. "Know yourself!" The ancient maxim holds true today. If you do not know yourself, you cannot get to know others.
Mission of the Kyrgyz Ethnology program:
The main tasks of the program are: The role of ethnologists in developing and strengthening relations between different nations and states is very important. This intense period of communication and awareness between East and West requires a comprehensive knowledge of different languages and cultures. Students of the Kyrgyz Ethnology department can help to build the bridges between cultures. The Kyrgyz Ethnology program offer courses: Intro to Ethnology; Ethnology; Manas Study; Kyrgyz Sangyra; Kyrgyz Philosophy; Kyrgyz Folklore in the light of Ethnology; Structuralism and Post-structuralism (or Hermeneutics); Modern Ethnological Conceptions; Ethnological and Archeological Fieldworks. Program graduates will be able to work as analysts in issues relating to ethnicity, as researcher- ethnologists, teacher of ethnology and Kyrgyz culture, and as translators (Kyrgyz, English).
