The library of the American University in Kyrgyzstan
In 1993 the AUK' predecessor Kyrgyz American School opened a library with only several books and a small reading hall. Today AUK students have access to one of the largest collections of foreign language books and periodicals in Kyrgyzstan. The two University Library's halls are open seven days a week for more hours than any other library in the country. It has over 43,000 volumes in 14 world languages in its collections and 400 to 800 new titles are added every year. There are almost 70 domestic and foreign periodicals and journals that allow students to be very well informed of what is happening throughout the world. Since January 1996, the library has been using the Winnebago library computer database system, which allows students to quickly find information they need and check out library materials. There are five qualified specialists to assist students with their needs.
